December 2010: Should I stay or should I go now?

December 2010 was meant to be the month I turned it around.  I’d play my games in hand, get close to the top of the league and get ready to win it!

However I had mixed fortunes;

The month started with an excellent 5-0 win against Dinamo Bucharest, ensuring qualification for the Europa League knock-out stage.  Tthen a win against Aberdeen, using a new 4-2-3-1 formation (the difference from the others is Commons is an inside forward (attack)) suggested by xdye17 made me believe it was turning around.

However continuing with this formation against Kilmarnock did not have any success in two games

Against Werder Bremen, I played 4-1-4-1, and since I had already qualified, I rested a lot of players because the league games are now more important.

Though what a waste – against Hamilton and St. Johnstone we were beaten despite dominating.

With failure after failure, morale was low, however another tactical change to 442 worked against league leaders Motherwell.

Roles/duties;

GK: Goalkeeper (Defend)
DR/DL: Full-back (Automatic)
DCs: Central Defender (Defend)
MR/ML: Winger (Attack)
MCl: Ball-Winning Midfielder (Defend)
MCr: Advanced Playmaker (Support)
FCl: Advanced Forward (Attack)
FCr: Deep-Lying Forward (Support)

Note the high % of shots on target!  For once I dominated like I should.  But just as I thought, maybe we can turn the SPL campaign round, the 1st of January game against Rangers was lost and Kris Commons, my best player, got sent off.

Lukaku was terrible during this game, missing so many chances.

I feel like quitting and starting over.  This is now the worst I have ever done with Celtic in any football manager game in my career.  Just look at the league table.

As The Clash would say should I stay or should I go now?  Can I turn it [...]

vikingmarius > UEC: November 2015

UEC: November 2015

Straight to business, our fixtures:

A lot of decent teams I guess I will not win one of these games, first up PAOK:

Not expecting a 6-0 thrashing like last time away from home and they get the better part of the earlier exchanges and get the lead of a Delac spill. Then Rooney who is much more a play-maker than scorer runs and sets up Coutinho who is my top goal scorer.  Then Dani Alves breaking down the right crosses it in to Rooney to get us the lead. We get more comfortable when Fletcher sets up Douglas Costa to drill in a long shot. We get a penalty and Rooney puts us 4-1 up. Coutinho gets his second and puts us 5-1 up and I guess it was a good rout. Plus we already qualified for the next round.

They have quite a strong side the stars being Benzema and Rodwell. We start better though but it takes a Nani Fk to give us the lead. Nani sets up Coutinho to get his goal for the game and we doubled our lead. We get a decent win we are cruising overall.

Coutinho injured so a just-back Hernandez starts. It’s a very open game and I guess Villa have the upper hand until a Hernandez cross falls to the feet of Jovetic. Derdiyok pulls one back and we get our first none win this season oh well no all win season :/.

We don’t start this game very well either, we are maybe overconfident since we are so dominant. It takes until half way through the second half when Asamoah hits in a nice curling shot. Disappointing win.

We already qualified but a difficult Valencia [...]

Dezmo > WORLD CUP 2018!

WORLD CUP 2018!

Hey guys!

This post is going to be about how I’ve played at the 2018 World Cup with Holland, the tournament will be played in Spain.

This is how we’ve qualified us for the tournament:

Romania and Turkey were the only opponents that we’ve not managed to beat twice, Turkey a draw and we’ve lost against Romania. We got easily, as expected, to the World Cup and I’m hoping that we’ll win it after we’ve lost 3 finals in the past, I think you all know about the most recent one

Group H of the World Cup:

We’re playing the world-class team of France, the average South-American side Paraguay and the weak team of United Arab Emirates. U.A.E. and Paraguay should be won, and I expect us to lose against France but I’m hoping we have a good day then! But as 99 percent of you guys know, the 2nd placed team also qualifies for the knock-out stages but will probably face a better team.

The team that will represent the Dutch:

Here is a little review of every position, I’ll play in a 4-2-3-1:

GOALKEEPER: Maarten Stekelenburg will be the number 1,  an old keeper (35) but still the best Holland has, Tim Krul and Piet Velthuizen both are much weaker but the position of goalkeeper has always been a point of discussion in Holland, we had Van der Sar but when he decided to stop we only had Stekelenburg and the others all are too weak to represent such a big team.

RIGHT WINGBACK: Shyamdew Zinhagel is a quality back and is one of the best on his position in the game, so he will be the first squad back. Also Daryl Janmaat from Benfica is called up, he [...]

xdye17 > December 2010 (CL)

December 2010 (CL)

Hello!

After keeping in track with the goal of winning the league it’s time to take a look at the Champions League.

One game left. We secured the first position and with so many matches I’ll play with my B team… Yet, if I win it’s 0.8million in prize so the players will have to battle for this. It’s also their chance to show some work and potential to make their path into A team.

Tactic: 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1

Very, very hard game! We suffered a lot! I opted to play in 4-3-3 since I was playing with my B team and Dinamo is very offensive at home. Bayern had drawn here 2-2. Saviola’s goal was pure luck because after that it was a festival of Dinamo. The woodwork and luck prevented them from scoring… Then Betao used is elbow on Saviola and was sent-off. This was our chance. I putted in play Aimar, Luisao and Martins. Saviola went to forward. And I changed the tactis for 4-2-3-1. We gain dominance over the field and in a beautiful play Martins scored the second. The game was won! Unfortunately we suffered a goal in the end but the money was ours!

Great performance and impressive the goal difference. In prize money we won 4 millions! Very important for our financial stability and future prospects! Well done.

So now it was time for draw. I don’t know if, like in reality 1st plays with 2nd. I believe so, so our opponents could be Anderlecht, Roma, Barcelona (finished behind Lyon), Real Madrid (finished behind Arsenal), Werder Bremen, Shakhtar and Schalke.

Awful result. Madrid and Barcelona were the two worst possible outcomes. I got Madrid. We will play first away. I [...]

xdye17 > December 2010

December 2010

Hello folks!

My story continues and we arrive to December 2010!

We weren’t lucky with the Cup draw. At least we will be playing Sporting at home. They were the only team that was able to steal us some points domestically this season.

We play two away matches in two difficult fields. As in the previous month I cannot lose any points so we’ll have to win both matches.

Tactic: 4-2-3-1

We dominated completely the match but we only managed to score from a corner. Sidnei at the first post made the difference! I’m disappointed with my forwards. More importantly we secured the win! It’s funny because in every stadium that we play it gets full. This is the power of Benfica in Portugal!

Tactic: 4-2-3-1

Really though match! Since we played at home I opted to maintain our main tactic. Sporting played in a 4-3-3. We managed to dominate the match, however, and once again, our finishing was poor. From 18 shoots only two had the right direction. Really disappointing.

Sporting played very defensive and ended second half playing in 4-3-3 but with 6 defenders, 2 defensive midfielders, one winger and one striker. Ridiculous! Probably this was why that even playing with ten we were closer to win! The justice came in the penalties, with a lot of emotion, but we are through. This is not a season priority but if we have the chance to win it…

Tactic: 4-2-3-1 and 4-2-2-2

Another total dominance. However, once again not transformed into goals. At 60 min I was really worried that I would lose two points so I changed the tactics to 4-2-2-2. These had some risk since they were playing 4-4-2 diamond. Yet, it revealed a good decision. I [...]
